Settings

Settings is where you make Cartsy fit the way you shop. It’s the fourth tab along the bottom — tap the gear to open it. Inside you’ll set your currency, flip a handful of switches to tidy up the screens you use most, and find your plan and a few helpful links.

Everything here is optional. Cartsy works happily out of the box, and you can change any of these whenever you like — your choices take effect straight away and stick around next time you open the app.

Cartsy Pro

The first thing you’ll see is My Plan. Tap it to check whether you’re on the free plan, in your free trial, or subscribed to Cartsy Pro — and to upgrade or manage your subscription. Cartsy Pro lifts the limits on how many products, list items, and cart items you can keep. There’s a full rundown in the Cartsy Pro section.

General

This is the everyday bunch — the settings most people set once and forget.

Currency

Tap Currency to choose the currency Cartsy shows prices in. The list covers currencies from around the world, and there’s a search box at the top so you can jump straight to yours by name or code. Tap one and a checkmark marks your choice. Cartsy starts out on US Dollar, so set this first if you shop in another currency — it changes how every price is shown across the app.

Tax Rate

If prices where you shop are listed before tax, set your local rate here and Cartsy will show a tax-included total beneath your cart total, so the number you see is closer to what you’ll actually pay. Type the rate as a percentage. It’s off until you set it — leave the field empty to switch it back off. See the Shopping Cart for where that total appears.

Keep Screen Awake

Nobody wants their screen dimming mid-aisle. With Keep Screen Awake on, your iPhone won’t go to sleep while you’re on the Shopping List or Shopping Cart screens — handy when your phone’s propped in the trolley and your hands are full. It only applies to those two screens, and it’s on by default.

Move Action Button to Left

The round action button — the one you tap to add things — normally sits in the bottom-right corner. If you’re left-handed, or just reach more easily on the other side, turn this on to move it to the bottom-left. It’s off by default, so the button starts on the right.

Show Cart Total in Shopping List

Above your shopping list, Cartsy normally shows a count of how many items are on it. Turn this on to swap that count for your active cart total instead — a running tally of what you’ve put in your cart so far, visible while you work through the list. It’s off by default.

Prompt for Quantity

Buying more than one of something? With Prompt for Quantity on, Cartsy asks how many the moment you add an item, so you can set the count right there instead of going back to change it. It’s off by default — leave it off and items are added one at a time.

Quantity Picker

The quantity picker has a row of shortcut buttons below the number, so common counts are one tap away instead of a dozen presses on the plus button. Tap Quantity Picker to choose what those five shortcuts are: tap any row and a wheel of numbers from 1 to 99 rolls out — spin it to the number you want and it’s saved straight away.

They start out as 1, 3, 5, 10, 12, and the row in Settings always shows your current five. Set them to whatever suits how you shop — if you usually buy drinks by the six-pack and yogurt by the four, put 4 and 6 in there. The shortcuts appear in the picker in the same order you list them here, so you can keep your most-used number first. Nothing stops you repeating a number, and there’s a Reset to Defaults button at the bottom to put the original five back.

Tap to Scan

This one tunes the Price Scanner. Normally the scanner starts reading the instant it opens. Turn Tap to Scan on and it shows a live preview and waits until you tap the screen before it starts — useful if you like to line up the shot first. It’s off by default. The Price Scanner section covers this in more detail.

Advanced

A couple of extras for when you want to fine-tune things. Most people never need to touch these.

Price Scanner

Tap Price Scanner to adjust the dials the scanner uses to pick out a real price from a busy tag — a minimum and maximum price to ignore stray numbers, and an option for tags that print prices without a decimal point. These are explained in full, with examples, over in the Price Scanner section. The row shows Default until you change something, then reads Custom.

Auto-fill Product Info

Turn this on and, whenever you scan a barcode on a product, Cartsy tries to fill in its name and photo for you automatically by looking the code up online. It’s off by default — switch it on if you’d rather not type those details in yourself.
